BollyClips February 15, 2007

Posted by Pallav Sharda in : Video Sharing , trackback

I feel like I’m turning eIndia into one of the ubiquitous bollywood-focused sites. But these Indian movie/video streaming websites keep popping up everywhere, and I’m amazed by the variety of startups in this domain.

BollyClips is a freeGreen Award Icon (no need to signup/register) online collection of trailers, music videos, full-length movies, albums, slideshows and miscellaneous stuff related to bollywood. I am sure that they are breaking one or two media copyright laws here- these are syndicated content, for god’s sake! Although some of the links are to external repositories (like YouTube), a significant amount is hosted by BollyClips. I clicked on a really old film (Ek Duje Ke Liye- Kamal Hasan, Rati Agnihotri, 1981) and it loaded up in under a minute on my DSL connection. There is a sleazy-looking ‘Hot & Sexy’ section too, which has snippets of bollywood’s semi-vulgar content.

Don’t know how they plan to monetize all this content (or avoid the lawsuits). Even though they are named after bollywood, there are a bunch of YouTube hollywood movies links on their site too, for some reason.

There are so many video sites on the internet. I think i like bollyclips.com becuase it’s cool interface I think they are not breaking any copyrithgt laws because they are just providing the links or embeding videos from the best video sharing site like youtube, google video etc. Videos are there..As long as they are not hosting any videos they are not breaking any copyright laws. i have seen there are 100s of video site just linking or embeding videos to major video site…i dont care as long as i can see the videos fast and easy way from bollyclips.com site. its like google search engine..Fast and easy way to find bollywood trailers and movies

Anurag,
Thanks for your comment. I agree that there is a plethora of video sites now. Your comment forces me to qualify my initial thought about BollyClips’ possible copyright issue. You are right, they are only ‘linking’ to most of the stuff (hosted on google videos, YouTube, DailyMotion etc).
When I looked closely, the rest of the movies (which are not links) are actually courtesy of Rajshri.com (Rajshri Productions)- so they are legal. I haven’t checked each and every movie link, of course, but the ones I clicked were either Rajshri or Links to other hosts.

I just found this site and it is a great movie site. They make selecting movies really easy since they have pictures and the interface is great. Check it out. It is at http://www.MeTubes.com

if you are looking for movies then you can go to muft.tv and apnicommunity.com

The gud thing about these sites are disallowing porn material.
