TiE January 12, 2007

TiE stands for ‘The Indus Entrepreneurs’. It is a non-profit organization that promotes entrepreneurship and mentoring for asian (read Indian) professionals. Although they started with the ‘Indus’ connection, it’s not restricted to South-east asians (they also re-invented their acronym to ‘Talent, Ideas and Enterprise’). The organization is largely made of Indians scattered across US, India and couple asian countries. The membership boasts of over 10,000 folks with chapters across major US and Indian cities.

The website isn’t anything great: the look-and-feel is a bit loosely done. Looks like they hold periodic events and gatherings in selected cities. I’m intrigued - just emailed them asking about membership dues (oddly enough, they were nowhere to be found on the website - except for a incorrect reference in the membership section which points to the chapter link for details!). I’ll update this post when I hear back from them.

Update:Okay, the ‘membership@..’ address bounced back, but I got a response from ‘admin@’.  The membership costs 100$ for the first year and then 50$ annual after that. Here is a link to a more functional site for TiE. Also a silicon valley version.

50$.. don’t know if it’s worth that amount. If you’ve had experience with TiE, lemme know.

Another Update: I joined TiE. They have an upcoming event in end of Feburary. Will post about it again.
